According to AdAge.com, a recent study reports that Broadband use grew 13% last year, which equates to 95.5 million U.S. households surfing the net more efficiently. Neilson/NetRatings issued the results of the study on Tuesday.
This is important to note because improved Internet connectivity directly fuels the content economy by providing users faster access to on-line content, including the long tail of that content. Can you imagine trying to download multiple videos through a dial-up connection?
AdAge.com notes: “It is unlikely so many people would visit these sites if they did not have broadband. According to [Jon] Gibs [senior director of media, Nielson/NetRatings], few users are willing to patiently wait for video and other streaming media to trickle to their computers via a dial-up connection. ‘The fatter the pipe, the more likely individuals are to download content,’” Mr. Gibs said.
As the content economy infrastructure continues to improve, that economy itself will be even better positioned to flourish.
