This week, I had the pleasure of attending the Anti-Spyware Coalition’s (ASC) Third Annual Public Workshop in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I was impressed by the intensity and dedication each of the speakers displayed on critical issues ranging from key loggers to “bots” to hijackers to standards for companies that display advertising. This was truly an industry-wide event as representatives from Google, StopBadware.org, TRUSTe, the FTC, Sunbelt, and others gathered to discuss the numerous challenges faced on the PC security front.

We have always said that we support fair, well-written legislation, particularly national legislation that will bring uniformity and certainty to our industry. Today, with the passage of H.R. 964 in the House, we’re one step closer to seeing that goal achieved.
Today’s decision denying our TRO request in the lawsuit we filed against Kaspersky was not completely unexpected, given that the case is before the same judge who is hearing the PC Tools suit.

Last month, Zango filed a lawsuit against Australian software company PC Tools. That company’s “Spyware Doctor” product (at that time, version 5.0.0.169) literally and systematically eliminated Zango software from consumers’ machines without notice of any sort or any opportunity for them to object.
